Hotel Weyanoke

Farmville, Virginia

When the Hotel Weyanoke was built in 1925 it was the largest hotel in Prince Edward County, Virginia. In the 1980’s it was converted to a nursing home, and then later used as housing for students at Longwood College.

The rehabilitation project converted the building back to its original function as a hotel. The exterior elevations were retained with changes limited to a sensitive introduction of a drive to the front of the building and the addition of a one-story hyphen at the rear to connect a new wing of hotel rooms, which were constructed in the rear parking lot. On the interior, all public spaces were retained in their current and historic functions including the lobby, dining room, upper-floor corridors, stairs and elevators, and basement restaurant. Historic interior features and finishes were also be retained.
