After completing a Court Services Master Plan for Appomattox County, Architectural Partners assisted the County in construction of a New Courthouse Facility. By relocating the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court into that new facility, the existing J&DR Building was vacated. Architectural Partners was contracted by Appomattox County to assist them with renovations to the aging building. The County’s desire was to relocate the majority of their Administrative offices to the upper level. Because the original use of the building varied so much from the new desired use, extensive space planning and research was undertaken to insure the new plan would serve the County’s needs to the highest level possible.
Due to the age of the building, extensive renovations were required including all new Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems. The entire interior of the second floor was demolished to make way for a new floor plan including two conference rooms, a break room, new offices, a new reception area and a waiting room. The required new entrances included large covered porches designed to fit into the surrounding historic buildings. Using new materials in innovative ways Architectural Partners was able to blend the new structures in with the surrounding Architecture of the historic Courthouse Square buildings as well as the new Courthouse Facility. The final building plan more than doubled the office space previously used by the County and greatly improved their working environment.
