The HAD team including, Architectural Partners completed an Economic Restructuring and Downtown Revitalization Plan for the Town of Honaker, Virginia. With a rich history supported by a diminishing coal and lumber economic base, the town has experienced over 40 years of physical and financial decline. AP participated in community interviews, “walking tours” of the town to gather information, “brainstorming” and charrette sessions with key decision-makers, and development of an overall town-wide physical analysis and Downtown Redevelopment Plan. Subsequent AP activities were based on refining cost opinions for proposed redevelopment work and positioning the Town for grant applications. Based upon an earlier completed, community-driven “Vision for Change”, Honaker’s key strategies include: 1) Invigorate the economy by attracting outside dollars; 2) build on the assets of the historic district while solving the physical challenges; and 3) execute a dynamic marketing/branding campaign.
