Who We Are
Our
Company.
Architectural Partners (AP) is a Lynchburg, Virginia-based design firm specializing in Architecture, Planning, and Interior Design. Established in 1952, the firm has expanded under several names and three generations of ownership, while the mission has remained constant. We view “design” as a broad spectrum of services, covering everything from city and community planning and development to the selection of interiors for professional office spaces. Our firm has worked for market segments including Private Independent Schools and Colleges, Municipalities, Commercial Properties, Adaptive Use, and Ecclesiastical projects. We work hard to produce the desired outcome of our client’s dreams and visions for their projects. Our name says it all…we strive to be good “partners,” helping clients see and explore the future in creative ways.

Our
History.
Architectural Partners first opened its doors in 1952, helmed by Garland Gay, Sr. with the name Garland Gay Associates. Garland Gay Associates established itself with a focus on local churches, municipalities, and commercial clients.
In 1981, Garland Gay and Hal Craddock began the second generation of the firm as Architectural Partners. The firm’s focus grew to include energy efficient design and multifamily residential markets. Mr. Gay retired and Mr. Craddock carried on the firm.
In 1994, Lynn Cunningham, who had worked for both Mr. Gay and Mr. Craddock, helped to move the firm into its third generation as Craddock Cunningham Architectural Partners (CCAP). That same year both Mark Smith and Gary Harvey joined CCAP.
In 2012, Mark Smith and Gary Harvey transitioned the firm into its fourth generation, which returned to Architectural Partners. Mark and Gary currently serve as principals and senior registered architects/project managers on a wide range of projects.
